Who we are:
The Markham Badminton Club (MBC) was established in 2008 when a group of community parents discovered that recreational family access to badminton facilities was limited. Our goal is to provide a service to the community that is not widely available for the residents of the Town of Markham in terms of cost and accessibility. MBC is unique in that we are a multi-cultural club which encourages and supports a friendly environment where youths and families can come together to play along side other neighbourhood families.
In 2010, the Markham Badminton Club successfully applied for not-for-profit status with the Province of Ontario. MBC is managed entirely by community volunteers (Board of Directors, Youth Council, Gym Operations Managers, Instructors, and Special Event Helpers) who receive no remuneration. Members are asked for a nominal fee to join the club to cover gym rental and shuttle costs; shuttles are provided as well as instructional badminton for youths. We strive to ensure members enjoy the sport of badminton at the level of play they are most comfortable with in a family recreational setting.
MBC’s mission is to provide everyone with the opportunity and support to learn, play and/or train in the sport of badminton in a friendly and organized community environment at a recreational or competitive level.
Why MBC is different:
Our mission is to provide an introduction and promote badminton at a grass roots/community level. The Markham Badminton Club exists for the purpose of members who wish to balance their family lifestyle with physical activity by playing recreational badminton. After the instructional sessions, families are encouraged to play not just amongst themselves, but with others at the same playing level. We strive to ensure members enjoy badminton, by creating a family-friendly environment while at the same time providing opportunities for the more passionate players to progress to competition.
